In today’s world, with so many large businesses and stores, its always nice to be reminded how important small businesses really are to our economy and community.
So here are some statistics that may surprise you:
1. Over a third of the US working population is employed at businesses with fewer than 100 employees. (Source: US Small Business Administration).
2. Businesses with less than five employees make up 62% of all businesses in the US. Source: US Small Business Administration).
3. For business with fewer than 5,000 employees, the average employment is 13 people. (Source: US Small Business Administration).
4. 51% of small business owners are over 50 years old, while only 16% are under 35. (Source: US Census Bureau via Wall Street Journal).
These statistics are just a few of many that are incredibly powerful and eye opening. This Saturday, November 28th is Small Business Saturday, is the day where we bring small businesses throughout the country front and center and bring more attention to the importance and benefits of shopping small.
