Joseph V. Deptula, III – “He gave 100% effort to all he did in his life.”

Joseph V. Deptula, III, died Saturday morning, June 29, 2014. Joe worked at DiGiorgi Roofing and Siding, Inc for 21 years. He was the first salesman ever hired, in Feb 1993. Joe truly loved his job, which is probably what made him a great salesman for every one of those 21 years. David DiGiorgi said it best, “Joe stood for and loved DiGiorgi Roofing and Siding, Inc, as much as my Dad or myself. Joe, as much as anybody, helped build the company to where it is today.”

Joe was a high school friend of David, and quickly became family to all the DiGiorgis. To say he will be missed is inadequate. Joe loved living. From fishing, to coaching, to selling, to being a great friend, husband and father, Joe made life fun. He gave 100 percent effort to all he did in his life. Joe was big hearted. Simply, Joe was a good guy. He was a Valley guy. The kind of guy you would want in your corner when the boat started to rock.

There was a gathering for Joe in March 2014, and over 500 people showed up to support him, with only a couple days of word of mouth notice. They came from grade school, high school, work, coaching and all facets of Joe’s life. If Joe considered you a friend, it was a lifelong relationship. No one there will ever forget Joe’s famous quote, “this kind of support could only happen in the All-American Valley. Where we grew up having each other’s back.”

Our thoughts and prayers are with Joe’s wonderful wife Sandy. She was right by his side every step of the way throughout their life together, courageously so, these last months. And his sons, Joe and Ben, who are continually a true source of strength for both their parents.

Friends may call on Wednesday  July 2, from 4-8 pm at the Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth Street Derby. On Thursday July 3, friends are invited to go directly to Saint Michael’s Church, 25 Maple Avenue Beacon Falls for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am.

In Joe’s memory, memorial contributions may be made to the Joseph V. Deptula, III Scholarship Fund to benefit a graduating senior from the Seymour High School Football Program.
